Want to work in Japan as a Student?
With a tourist visa, you cannot work in Japan but working in Japan as a student is entirely a different ballgame. Since the visa type is different, you are allowed to get work permission after landing at an Airport in Japan and you are allowed to work part-time in Japan.
You can work 28 hours in 1 week on school weeks and 40 hours 1 week during semester breaks. Students are generally not allowed to take any job related to nightclubs or adult entertainment.
Common Jobs in Japan that students are allowed to get are Bartender, Dishwasher, Data entry worker, Waiter, Store helper or convenience store worker, Cashier, Food packaging, Delivery boy, etc.
Most students work in shops or restaurants where they can easily earn around 1,000 Yen per hour. However, sometimes it can be hard to find a job if you don’t speak at least basic Japanese. The best-paid jobs for students are often to work as an English teacher. You can teach either at a school or with an English teaching company or you can just give private conversation lessons in a café. Doing so easily allows you to earn up to 3,000 Yen per hour or even more.
The work permit is a sticker on your passport. To obtain a student visa you must be in Japan. The easiest way to get the permit is to get it immediately and directly at the airport when you first arrive in Japan.
You can also visit the Immigration office later but since it will take time the school can guide you about how to get a work permit immediately at Airport itself.
